John grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, graduating from Chattanooga High School in 1969. He attended the USAF Academy, earning a B.S. in Civil Engineering before attending the USAF Undergraduate Pilot Training at Craig AFB, Alabama. While in pilot training, he met Nancy, and they were married in August, 1974.
Following pilot training, John attended F-4 training in Florida, with a follow on assignment to Osan AB, ROK. Over the course of his nearly 25 year career, John flew various models of the F-4, F-15, MiG-21, and MiG-23 in assignments in the Pacific, across the U.S. and in Europe. He flew the F-15 during Desert Storm, leading 26 combat missions. His final assignment was in U.S. Space Command in Colorado Springs.
Upon his USAF retirement, John and his family moved to Monument. John taught math and physics at Lewis Palmer High School, and coached and refereed wrestling and soccer. In 2007, John resigned from teaching and was elected to the D-38 Board of Education, where he served two terms in various positions, including Treasurer, Vice President, and President.
Today John is a pilot in corporate aviation; he flies, instructs, and tows gliders at a local club. He and Nancy enjoy running their own businesses, experiencing life in Colorado, and visiting their three adult children.
