DWIGHT “TED” BAUMAN
Ted grew up in Elkton, Michigan, and was one of seven brothers and sisters in the Bauman family. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education/Tuba Performance, as well as a minor in history. In 1968, he enlisted in the Army and was accepted to play in the NORAD Band in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Ted returned to graduate school at CMU in 1972, received a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, and met jeri-Gene. They were married in August of 1973. Ted taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels in Mt. Pleasant and Traverse City Michigan, and in 1979, Ted and jeri-Gene moved to Canon City, CO. Ted taught elementary school at Lincoln Elementary for two years then accepted the assistant principal position at Canon City Junior High. After four years, Ted became the principal of Harrison Elementary School in the district. Ted and jeri-Gene’s daughter, Haley Joy, was born in 1985. Ted received his Colorado administrators license from the University of Colorado.
In 1988, Ted, jeri-Gene, and Haley moved to Lewis-Palmer School District 38. Ted was the principal of Kilmer Elementary School for two years, assistant superintendent for eight years, and the last five years served as superintendent for the school district. Ted retired in June, 2003, however he returned as interim superintendent for District 38 in 2010-2011, and again in 2014.
